Compost
Sale and Mulch Giveaway
2010
While winter was
putting a freeze on many of the outdoor activities of area residents, the City
of Eden’s Solid Waste Division had a couple of “hot projects” steaming: mulch
and compost material has being prepared for the annual
Compost and Mulch Sale which
starts March 20th and will be
held (4) four Saturdays until April 9th.
This year, Eden is
providing free mulch as long as it lasts, with compost also available at
different rates; $5.00; $20.00; $35.00:
(pick-up; reg. dump truck; tandem
dump truck). The mulch is ideal
for the development of natural areas and for placement around trees and
shrubbery. Compost is an excellent
soil amendment for flower and vegetable gardens and for areas of lawn where soil
needs added nutrients for improvement. Compost helps to retain moisture in soil
during dry periods.
The materials are
now ready for release. Area
residents can pick up compost and mulch on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
starting March 20th
at the Public Works Facility located at the end of West Avenue off of
Washington Street. In case of rain,
the sale dates will be moved to the following Saturday.
Area residents can
usually have their trucks and utility trailers loaded quickly upon arriving at
the mulch and compost facility.
There is a limited amount of mulch available and it is expected to last only for
a short period of time.
What once was placed
at the curb as waste for disposal by Eden residents, such as leaves, grass
clippings and wood waste deriving from tree trimming and removal is now recycled
for use as a viable product. This is a good example of “Closing the Recycle
Loop”
The Eden Solid Waste
Division encourages each citizen to “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”.
These three practices are essential for each of us to be good stewards of
the earth, the environment and the natural resources we have been endowed with.
Each of us owes it to ourselves and too future generations.
